Dearest Darling Sweetheart
Dearest Darling Sweetheart
Here is a kiss for you and one for the babies. Just think honey after 16 long years Jack is sitting across the table writing to you and how happy I am we are just like two kids, he is still my big brother and I sure am proud of him.
He came in yesterday at about 12:00 noon
and just as soon as he opened the door of the train I knew him and I could
hardly wait until I saw him, we threw our arms around each other necks and I
guess these French people thought we were crazy but we did not care.
I took him to Division Hdqrs. and there
was several officers whom he had met in the Philippines, they certainly was
glad to see them.
We drove out on a motorcycle and it was
raining pitch forks but we did not mind that we were both happy. We talked to
each other about the babies and you and Mother and last night we drank a bottle
of Champagne to you and the babies and we sat down this morning and wrote to
mother and you.
I just received my check yesterday and I
am going to town tomorrow and send you your money if it does not cost to (too)
much I shall cable it so will probably get it long before this letter.
I shall make an allotment to you for the
month of November of $150 a month.
Honey dear yesterday I received the
biggest compliment I ever received from anyone. Colonel McGee thanked me and
said that he was of what I had done to bring the troops, his men over so safely
and to get along so well after being put out among the French people and get
along so well he promised me a captaincy first as soon as the got together and
I sure am proud of all he said to me. Col. Coffin, Division Surgeon also gave
me a wonderful compliment saying about the same as Col. McGee.
Honey dear I have a wonderful place to
stay the people treat me just like a son, good things to eat and everything.
This morning’s paper said the war was
almost over the Germans are going to evacuate all territory isn’t that good
news. I expect to be home in 6 months.
Millions and millions of bushels of love
to you and our dolls. Best regards to Estelle and Fred and Mr. Roche.
If I only had you here to love and kiss.
To my baby Sweetheart from your loving hubby Al.
